The Department of Materials is seeking a Senior Education Officer (SEO) to join its Education Support Team (EST). This is a responsible, demanding and key position and is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to build a career in university administration. As well as being highly organised, the post holder will need to be a self-starter, proactive, and able to undertake tasks with minimal levels of supervision. The EST comprises of seven staff, including an Education Support Assistant who is line-managed by the SEO.
The Senior Education Officer will be responsible for delivering high quality academic administration with a particular focus on: undergraduate examinations and assessment; other administration for the provision of teaching, including servicing two teaching related committee and preparing course handbooks; and maintaining data on the department’s research students that is held in the URKI’s JeS database. You will have the capacity to understand and apply University and departmental policies and procedures accurately and effectively. You will also act as one of the departmental Disability Advisors and work with relevant stakeholders to support current and prospective students with disabilities.
You will demonstrate a high level of numeracy and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, producing accurate work to tight and sometimes competing deadlines. You will provide support to the department’s Education Manager, who leads the EST, guidance to the Chair of Examiners; and support to the other examiners and assessors, other academic staff, and students. You will work closely with the Education Manager and other EST members, the Chair of Examiners, the Director of Graduate Studies and the department’s Finance Office and will liaise as necessary with other support staff in the department and other parts of the university.
