Senior EDIA Advisor (Equity and Human Rights), Equity Diversity and Inclusion, Provost & VP Academic

Position Overview

The Equity Diversity and Inclusion team under the Office of the Provost & VP Academic invites applications for a Senior EDIA Advisor (Equity and Human Rights). This Full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 35 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.

Reporting to Director of EDIA, the primary purpose of this position will be to deliver expert advice and guidance, develop and deliver human rights and equity workshops, and work collaboratively with members of the campus community to develop and implement strategic directions in human rights, anti-racism, and EDI obligations as it works to achieve equitable pathways and inclusive excellence. The position plays a critical role in ensuring compliance, in promoting a culture of human rights, equity and inclusivity, and in guiding efforts to adopt and assess implementation of human rights and EDI-related policies, procedures, and programs.

Position Description

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

Process Development and Program Support

  • Support the Vice-Provost and Associate Vice-President, Research (EDI) and the Director of EDIA in developing and implementing human rights, anti-racism, and EDIA action plans.
  • Develop and implement processes and frameworks to achieve and monitor human rights, anti-racism, and EDIA progress.
  • Support equitable and inclusive recruitment practices in collaboration with Human Resources.
  • Maintain in-depth understanding of human rights, anti-racism, and EDIA requirements, in particular as it relates to strategic institutional initiatives.
  • Develop human rights, anti-racism, and equity content for the OEDI administrative webpages and other communication materials.
  • Facilitate the broader development of human rights and EDIA practices and resources applicable across the campus community.

Analysis and Reporting

  • Support the development and implementation of processes related to human rights, anti-racism, and EDIA data gathering and processes.
  • Develop and conduct environmental scans to identify human rights issues, barriers for equity deserving groups, and evaluate their access/barriers to institutional opportunities and resources.
  • Research, write and deliver strategic documentation and supporting policies, procedures, and promising practices and actions.
  • Inform the need for new actions and track progress in sustaining a healthy and inclusive campus environment for equity-deserving groups.

Guidance and Training

  • Prepare and deliver presentations to communicate human rights, anti-racism, and EDIA processes across various levels of administration including senior leadership.
  • Initiate and lead the development of guidance and training resources on such topics as human rights, anti-racism, EDIA, intersectionality, Gender Based Analysis (GBA+) and strategies to support equity and inclusion in the post-secondary sector.
  • Develop, plan, facilitate, and evaluate workshops and training related to human rights, anti-racism and EDIA.

Leadership

  • Support the Vice-Provost and Associate Vice-President Research (EDI) and OEDI’s Director of EDIA in leading and implementing organizational change to support adoption of promising practices and programs.
  • Represent the OEDI team to relevant internal stakeholders including faculties and schools, administrative units, and various human rights, anti-racism, and EDI-related committees, and external stakeholders.
  • Act as a senior resource to peers in the OEDI, including providing ongoing coaching and mentorship.

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree, and a Master’s Degree is preferred.
  • Postgraduate studies/experience in the areas of human rights, anti-racism, and EDI.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience developing and facilitating human rights, anti-racism EDIA programs is required, preferably in the post-secondary sector.
  • Demonstrated track record of working effectively with, and for, members of equity deserving groups.
  • Demonstrated commitment, lived experiences, proactive efforts, and/or positive outcomes in implementing human rights, anti-racism and EDIA actions, policies, and delivering workshops.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of human rights, anti-racism, and EDIA policies, procedures, and provincial/federal legislation.
  • Experience in human rights, anti-racism, EDIA programs for post-secondary institutions.
  • Experience in developing process and monitoring frameworks, and proficient in evaluation methods to measure effectiveness of human rights, anti-racism, and EDIA approaches.
  • Experience in organizational change management and communication planning.
  • Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively and effectively to deliver EDIA-related objectives.
  • Demonstrated cultural sensitivity.
  • Excellent presentation and training skills.
  • Ability to work independently, planning and prioritizing own work, in a team setting.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to convey human rights, anti-racism and EDIA priorities and build relationships in a variety of settings across diverse demographic groups and institutional roles.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Expectation to be willing to learn about and implement university and relevant external processes.
  • Ability to protect privacy and maintain confidentiality.
