Position Summary
Michigan State University is seeking a Senior Director of Development to conceptualize, plan and execute a coordinated program of philanthropic fund raising, and alumni and constituent relations for the College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM). The CVM is seeking candidates who are collaborative, skilled managers who also possess proven exceptional frontline fundraising experience.
Serving as MSU’s chief veterinary medicine development officer, the Senior Director:
Michigan State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine was formally established as a four-year, degree-granting program in 1910. Today, the college includes three biomedical science departments –Microbiology and Molecular Genetics, Pathobiology and Diagnostic Investigation, and Pharmacology and Toxicology; two clinical departments — Large Animal Clinical Sciences and Small Animal Clinical Sciences; two service units — the Veterinary Medical Center and the Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory; and several research centers. The abundance and variety of animal agriculture and companion animals in Michigan provides the college with one of the largest clinical and diagnostic caseloads in the country. Educational and research opportunities are considerably enhanced by this large caseload which exceeds 27,000 each year.
As part of the University’s upcoming third billion-dollar plus campaign, the Senior Director will play a pivotal leadership role in planning and spearheading the next $100 million+ campaign effort for the College.

Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year degree program in Communication, Public Relations, Marketing and/or Business; five to eight years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in professional and higher education fundraising, public relations, marketing, development of budgets, preparation and presentation of case statements and analysis of operations; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
