Summary of Duties:
Reporting to the Executive Director of Corporate Engagement, and working closely with the Associate Vice President, Central Development Units, the Senior Director of Development, Corporate Engagement leads the cultivation and solicitation of strategic, holistic relationships with a portfolio of top-tier corporations. They will serve as the team leader, directing the work of Corporate Engagement staff.
This person will be responsible for planning and implementing internal and external activities with the intent of facilitating and stewarding new and existing partnerships with Washington State University (WSU) and corporations in the fulfillment of their engagement and philanthropic missions with the University.
Telework/Hybrid/Remote positions will require signing a telework agreement. Minimum technical requirements include an internet bandwidth of 4.0 Mbps for upload and download. WSU will provide other technical equipment determined necessary for telework positions.
Essential Functions
Corporate Engagement, Solicitation, and Stewardship

Develop strategies and plans to secure private support from corporate partners.

In conjunction with leadership, establish goals and objectives, and measure progress against those goals/objectives.

Manage and grow a portfolio of corporate foundations by proactively identifying, cultivating, collaborating, soliciting and stewarding corporations with national and international reach.

Maintain and grow relationships with program officers and corporate representatives.
-
Working across the WSU system, develop proposals with faculty, staff and administrators designed to appeal to the holistic goals of identified corporate prospects, including but not limited to philanthropy, sponsored research, student success, marketing/sponsorship, and public policy advocacy.

Write stewardship reports to be shared with internal and external stakeholders.
Leadership

Serve as a subject matter expert for Advancement, as well as academic and administrative, colleagues regarding corporate engagement, funding and grant support.

Collaborate with major gift officers to develop and implement strategies for major gift cultivation and solicitation.

Hire, coach, support and evaluate a growing Corporate Engagement team. Lead and inspire staff to meet and exceed expectations.

Working with the Executive Director for Corporate Engagement and Advancement leadership, establish individual and team goals, and appropriate metrics for success.

Ensure an inclusive and positive work environment where team members know what is expected of them and are given the tools to succeed.

Foster the professional development of direct reports, supporting their career growth, and mentoring them as needed.
External Relations
-
When appropriate, conduct face-to-face meetings with corporate executives and corporate foundation representatives to better the holistic priorities of the business and their philanthropic goals.

Conceive of and implement events that promote interaction and engagement between corporations and WSU stakeholders.

Help facilitate campus visits of corporate representatives, assuring that such trips are meaningful and help develop the relationship between such companies and the University.
Required Qualifications
-
Positions require a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and six (6) years of progressively responsible relevant experience, which has included at least three (3) years of managerial experience. A Master’s degree in a related field may be substituted for up to one (1) year of the required experience. Education and experience can be tailored to fit the specific organizational entity/directorial assignment.

Demonstrated knowledge of corporate business and foundation development settings.

Ability to understand complex strategies and contribute to their development and implementation.
-
Proven success with solicitations and the awarding of grants.
-
Excellent written and oral communication skills, and experience at making presentations.
-
Ability to synthesize information and compose thorough, clear and effective proposals and documents.
-
Excellent analytical skills.
-
Ability to successfully manage projects with diverse stakeholders, including faculty, administrators, Advancement colleagues, and foundation officers, and competing deadlines.

Demonstrated “cold-calling” experience and ability to create and sustain new relationships.

Proven ability to navigate successfully in both the corporate and academic worlds.
Preferred Qualifications
-
Experience in marketing, business development and/or sales would be helpful.
-
Experience working in higher education advancement is a plus, particularly experience with and understanding of holistic academic corporate engagement strategies.

Adaptability and sensitivity to corporate objectives.
-
Understanding of the dynamics of corporate partnerships, giving, and business trends that may impact corporate investments.
-
Familiarity with the economy of the state of Washington and the key industries and companies that support it.
