Senior DevOps Systems Engineer

• Two full time 12-month fixed term positions
• Utilise your technical expertise to develop, build and operate The University of Sydney’s latest research IT infrastructure
• Base Salary $129,847 + 17% superannuation

About the opportunity

The Senior DevOps Systems Engineer will develop, build and operate The University of Sydney’s latest research IT infrastructure for our research community. This role will lead and coordinate partnerships with researchers at the University, staff from ICT, the Core Research Facilities, the Library and the Research Portfolio to deploy, support, maintain, and continuously improve a range of systems dedicated to research.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

• work in close consultation with researchers and ICT to understand their needs for research
• lead the development of research-focused compute and storage systems (including operating systems, local and network-attached storage, networking, DR and public cloud technologies)
• provide expert technical and logistical advice for next generation data analysis platforms
• lead the delivery of QA and improvements to next generation digital infrastructure to facilitate its use throughout the University of Sydney
• work cooperatively and productively within a professional group operating in small product teams to achieve organisational goals

About you

• tertiary qualifications in an Information and Communications Technology discipline, or extensive equivalent professional experiential learning, with extensive experience and expertise
• experience installing, configuring, maintaining, and optimising a high availability customer facing server (running Tomcat or equivalent) that hosted web applications with RESTful API
• familiar with delivering DevOps practices and CI/CD (Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery) outcomes using tools like Bitbucket Pipeline, Travis CI, Jenkins, Bamboo, AWS CodePipeline, AWS CodeDeploy etc
• highly developed communication skills with the sound interpersonal skills necessary to facilitate and achieve effective co-ordination of cross disciplinary support teams
• demonstrated ability to take a leading role in software design, analysis and specification, in a research context
• ability to work as a team with, liaise and negotiate with internal and external customers, contractors and suppliers at multiple levels of an organisation

Australian Temporary Residents currently employed at the University of Sydney may be considered for a fixed term contract for the length of their visa, depending on the requirements of the hiring area and the position.
