Get to Know the Team

Data Engineering manages the code, pipelines, and infrastructure that extract, process, and prepare every piece of data generated or consumed by Grab’s systems. We are a diverse team of software engineers that not only works to solve a variety of data-related problems faced by teams across Grab but also acts as a bridge connecting everyone through data. This ensures we can introduce or develop the latest and best technologies to secure our ongoing success.

Get to Know the Role 

We are looking for individuals with experience working within distributed environments to join our big data engineering group. You will report into the Senior Engineering Manager. We support hybrid work, and our office is in Petaling Jaya, Selangor, Malaysia.You will automate multiple big data flows, performance engineering, and building the internal big data pipeline platform to maintain the quality of our critical our data. We offer the opportunity to work with a world-class engineering team managing petabytes of data in Southeast Asia.

The Critical Tasks You Will Perform

• Design and implement scalable and maintainable RESTful API services.
• Architect efficient backend services for the data platform.
• Debug and troubleshoot issues within the big data platform.
• Define operating procedures, service monitors, and alerts, and collaborate with the infrastructure team for implementation.
• Establish plans, and provide technical consultation in the design, and testing efforts of complex engineering projects.
• Recreate complex customer and production-reported issues to determine cause and verify fixes.

Qualifications

What Essential Skills You Will Need

• 5 plus years of work experience.
• Proficient programming skills in any of the following languages: Python, Golang, Scala, Java, with a solid foundation in system design.
• Hands-on experience deploying applications to production (e.g., databases, REST APIs).
• Familiarity with the modern big data ecosystem, such as Kubernetes (K8s), Spark, Trino, Airflow, Kafka.
• Basic knowledge of at least one modern JavaScript framework: React, Vue.js, Angular.
• Proficient knowledge of relational databases and SQL.
