The Senior Analyst for Donor Strategy, reporting to the Associate Vice Chancellor of University Development and with work direction from the Director of Donor Strategy, is responsible for providing complex project coordination, needs assessment, analysis, and implementation of donor strategy and engagement activities in support of University Development’s core development strategies, programs, and initiatives. The Senior Analyst for Donor Strategy works closely with colleagues across University Development and Advancement on high-level projects to ensure effective and efficient strategic planning, execution, and evaluation on a wide variety of University Development priorities, programs, and projects, alerting management and proposing solutions for potential risks and roadblocks. This includes managing a wide range of visible issues involving programmatic and project management work associated with complex problems of a confidential and extremely sensitive nature.
The Senior Analyst for Donor Strategy works within a sophisticated, highly-collaborative fundraising office that fosters relations with senior management, faculty, community leaders, alumni, donors, prospective employees, and university and government officials. The position requires knowledge and organizational savvy in effectively navigating across UC San Diego internal communities, as well as familiarity with external audiences such as volunteer leadership and major donors.
The position provides complex analysis to understand University Development’s business needs for current/future fundraising initiatives and recommends and contributes to implementation of development activities and strategic improvements. The Senior Analyst for Donor Strategy will use skills as a seasoned, experienced professional with a full understanding of development and analytical practices, policies and procedures to research, analyze and develop solutions to a wide range of issues. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods for obtaining solutions. Primarily deals with development activities, programs, and strategies which are complex in nature and diverse in scope. As needed, develops new programs and strategies for possible implementation.

Bachelor’s degree in related area or an equivalent combination of experience/training. Minimum of five (5) years of experience in an operational or administrative role working in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
Demonstrated knowledge of the techniques of donor/prospect research with the ability to extract and distill pertinent and critical information from multiple sources.
Strong policy analysis techniques. Demonstrated ability to assess procedures and define requirements to streamline business processes and result in productivity improvement.
Strong skills in analyzing, researching and synthesizing large amounts of data for preparing sound and relevant proposals and analyses.
Excellent written communication skills to compose reports, presentations, summaries, briefings, memos, administrative policies and procedures, and donor correspondence.
Knowledge of accounting principles and practices. Experience in producing financial and expense reports, purchasing, and reconciliation. Skill to monitor financial activities and transactions for report generation, purchasing, travel vouchers, accounts payable, and accounts receivable.
Demonstrated experience coordinating complex scheduling and domestic and foreign travel arrangements.
Expert level of experience using Microsoft Office applications especially Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Proven knowledge of common computer application programs. Ability to learn new and upgraded software and apply skills to current workload/project work.
Analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to analyze information, situations, problems, policies and procedures; ask critical questions to gather all required information; identify potential solutions; apply solutions and formulate logical and objective conclusions from data and observations; and communicate conclusions to a variety of personnel at various levels. Ability to use discretion and maintain all confidentiality.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. Excellent interpersonal skills including tact, diplomacy, flexibility and skills in dealing with politically sensitive situations. Ability to communicate effectively one-on-one or in group settings, taking into account differences in social, cultural, professional, and educational backgrounds.
Outstanding ability to partner with diverse staff and administrators in an inclusive environment across the university to achieve project/program objectives through consensus-building, customer service orientation, and shared ownership of outcomes.
