The Senior Advisor (First Nations Workforce Strategy) will work as part of a team of passionate People and Diversity Strategy professionals. You will apply your knowledge and understanding of Australian Indigenous perspectives and Human Resources to identify and implement strategies that improve employment, career development and workplace inclusion for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples at the University. 

You will work closely with the Pro Vice-Chancellor, First Nations, and other First Nations employees, community members, Elders, Traditional Custodians and knowledge holders, to design strategies and initiatives that seeks to make UniSQ an attractive and culturally safe environment for current and prospective Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples.  

Who are you

  • You are someone who sees the tangible benefits you can bring to our First Nations people and the University through this role.
  • You will have experience working and communicating sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, including a sound knowledge of both cultures and societies.  You will apply empathy and build rapport with Aboriginal and Torres Strait employees and communities and be highly aware of differences in communication in cultural contexts.
  • Your understanding of Australia Indigenous perspectives, preferably with a knowledge of connections to emerging issues and developments in higher education will be supported by your capacity to effectively negotiate and influence and build productive professional relationships across the University.
  • You will have knowledge of contemporary human resources practices, particularly recruitment, employment and career development strategies and practices.
  • You will have highly developed written communication skills, with the ability to write and edit strategy documents, promotional content for the UniSQ jobs website and practical information for the intranet.
  • You will have experience in developing, implementing, evaluating, and reporting on projects and initiatives.

What you’ll do:

  • Co-design, develop and implement the University’s First Nations Workforce Strategy, working to ensure that goals, actions and deliverables are met.
  • Work with the many internal and external community members, networks and organisations with a specific focus on creating a sense of connectedness to the University and identifying ways to attract and support First Nations employees and their aspirations.
  • Design, develop and implement workforce initiative policies and projects which increase and enhance employment and career development for First Nations peoples.
  • Analyse and report on a range of workforce related data to help with decision making and in determining the effectiveness of First Nations workforce initiatives
  • Develop written material to support and promote the universities First Nations employee property value proposition as well as promoting various initiatives within the Workforce Strategy
