Job Purpose/Overview

The Senior Accountant is responsible for supporting the company’s financial record-keeping and reporting requirements and ensuring compliance with US GAAP, corporate policies and procedures and common ethical practices. This position will work closely with other members of the Finance and Accounting team to drive company and departmental success while enhancing their own personal career development. Antech is a fast-paced environment and the job will require a strong work ethic, constant attention to detail and deadlines and the ability to learn quickly. A positive attitude will be constantly required while leading the success of the team by example

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

General Accounting:

  • Responsible for one or more accounting processes – general ledger, intercompany transactions, leases (lessee and lessor), accruals, inventory, fixed assets, depreciation and amortization, reserves and allowances, cash, reconciliations, credit card reconciliations

  • Executes monthly and quarterly accounting close procedures including reconciliations, journal entries and financial analysis

  • Executes internal controls in accordance with company policy and control matrices

  • Works with auditors to provide documentation and support for accounting transactions, balances and internal controls

  • Prepares accounting research for existing and new transactions and understands or is able to learn new accounting guidance independently; guidance will be specific to US GAAP

  • Assists in resolution of any accounting, internal control and audit issues as well as assembly and review of working papers

Financial Reporting:

  • Assists and/or leads the preparation of daily, monthly and quarterly reports to internal and external stakeholders and ensures high quality of work in all report distributions

  • Assist preparation of Q23, Q28 and other quarter end footnotes, and statements,

  • Coordinates internal and external reporting and improves timeliness and accuracy of financial closing and reporting in addition to streamlining audit efforts

  • Manages preparation and submission of reports for governmental agencies

Other duties as assigned:

  • Assists others in the Accounting and Finance Department as needed, specifically those in Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable functions

  • Provides support during special projects, system implementations and/or unique transactions; leads process and system improvement initiatives

  • Prepares government remittances/filings for taxes such as WSIB, HST, QST, etc.

  • Delivers ad hoc reporting, sometimes with minimal structure or guidance provided

Education and Experience

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting

  • CPA or CPA-candidate preferred

  • Advanced knowledge of US GAAP/IFRS

  • Public accounting or previous public company experience is an asset

  • ERP system experience; IFS experience preferred

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Outlook required

  • A Demonstrated knowledge and expertise of US GAAP/IFRS

  • Proven ability to function as part of a diverse accounting team

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions clearly and efficiently

  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills including the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions and communicate them to management

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with many personalities

  • Ability to understand, analyze and interpret financial statements and financial data

  • Ability to multi-task and meet changing priorities and tight deadlines

  • Consistently displays strong analytical skills, accuracy and attention to detail

  • Ability to work independently; self-starter and problem solver

  • Advanced ability with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel and Outlook

Working Conditions

The associate is regularly required to apply manual dexterity, including hand/wrist flexibility, for computer keyboarding. The associate frequently is required to sit for extended periods of time, stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms. The associate is frequently required to hear and speak in order to use the telephone, make presentations and communicate with people in an office or virtual environment. The associate is occasionally required to sit and stoop, bend, kneel, or crouch. The associate must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds.

The associate will primarily work in a typical office environment or a remote home office. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The associate will be required to use a computer, spreadsheets, data base management, email, video conferencing and the Internet. The associate is frequently required to use a calculator; fax, copy machine, and phone system. The associate must occasionally use media equipment such as an overhead projector, PowerPoint, and Microsoft Teams. Environment where pets are present
