Position Summary

This position will provide support to the professors, research associates, technicians, graduate and undergraduate students in the Department of Plant Biology.  The office is small, friendly, and collaborative; each person has their own specific duties, but all share expertise and fill in for each other as necessary. This person will be responsible for maintaining appointment calendars, arranging travel reservations and complete vouchers for individual faculty and staff members. Process all hires for temporary and student employees. Hire and provide leadership to student employees including assigning tasks, reviewing work, training, and answering questions regarding work. Monitor, calculate and process student and labor payroll.  Maintain record of keys, schedule room use and arrange for building repairs to administer the physical facilities of the department. Provide assistance to departmental seminar program by corresponding with seminar speakers, paying honorariums to speakers, scheduling seminars, process travel authorizations and vouchers, and prepare flyers to be posted.  Serve as office receptionist. Oversee mail and package distribution. Organize and assist with regularized office procedures as required.  

Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills

Knowledge normally acquired through a high school education with coursework in typing and shorthand; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in word processing, spreadsheet, database, desktop publishing, calendaring and/or presentation software; typing and filing; and may require knowledge of technical or medical terminology and/or technical training related to the field of employment; may require bilingual abilities in a specific language; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
