The position involves laboratory studies of the kinetics and mechanism of the atmospheric oxidation of gas phase elemental mercury. In addition the spectroscopy and photochemistry of reactive intermediates in the oxidation process are studied. The studies utilize high power tunable and fixed frequency lasers.

Duties include but are not limited to:

·         Development of highly sensitive detection techniques for mercuric radicals,

·         Design and implementation of pulsed laser photolysis- pulsed laser induced fluorescence experiments for kinetics measurements,

·         Programing skill in interfacing equipment for data acquisition using GPIB protocols
