DESY looks back on a long tradition in synchrotron radiation experiments in a wide range of applications and has developed into one of the leading centres in this field worldwide. For high end synchrotron radiation applications, the 3rd generation source PETRAIII is available since 2009 as one of the most brilliant hard X-ray sources Worldwide. The PETRAIII beam line P03 is dedicated for GISAXS/WAXS applications with a high degree of automation and a multitude of different sample environments.

About your role:

• You will be in charge of operating the state-of-the-art GISAXS/WAXS beamline P03
• You will be responsible for the installation, commissioning, optimization and automatization of X-ray optics, beamline hardware and infrastructure with a special emphasis on GISAXS/WAXS applications
• You will manage and provide the support of external and internal user groups at P03
• You will manage research programs on enabling X-ray technology and in the field of GISAXS/WAXS at P03
• You will be leading a team of Postdocs and engineers and you will have budget responsibilities

About you:

• PhD in biology, physics, chemistry, materials science or in a related field
• Substantial knowledge and experience in design, installation, commissioning and operation of GISAXS/WAXS beamlines at optics at 3rd generation synchrotron radiation sources, including user support
• Experience in personal management, budget planning and project based fund raising
• Experience and deep understanding of analysis and simulation of GISAXS/WAXS data
• Excellent communication skills in English language
• Very good team player
• Programming skills, preferred Python
