Scholarships and Student Aid
McGill’s Scholarship and Student Aid Office (SSAO) advises McGill students on funding options, budgeting, and debt management. They disburse all provincial, federal, and US student aid funding, and help with government aid information and documentation. They offer an Entrance Bursary Program, Entrance Scholarships, an In-Course Financial Aid Program (loans and bursaries) and a Work Study Program based on financial need.
Position Summary:
Plans, develops and implements administrative procedures, policies and processes to support the delivery of the University’s undergraduate scholarship programs for first-time, first-degree students. Ensures robust and equitable adjudication of recipients, the judicious awarding of donor funds, and implementation of renewals. Supports student engagement in donor stewardship and provides reporting of program and fund-based outcomes. Works on special projects under the direction of the Director, Scholarships and Student Aid office.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Organizes academic review with Admissions for One-Time and Major Renewable Scholarship programs. Screens all major applications submitted..
- Plans competitions for Major Entrance and Prestige Scholarships; constitutes Selection Committees; manages scholarship offers and renewal processes.
- Management and monitoring of entrance scholarship selections, offers, acceptances and ongoing registration, eligibility verification and renewals.
- Assigns student awards to donor funds respecting award terms, restrictive clauses, donor preferences, etc.
- Advises students on an individual basis on scholarship related issues.
- Collaborates with University Advancement (UA) in the establishment of new awards, donor stewardship, donor communications and alumni mentorship.
- Develops web content, promotional materials, workshops on scholarship topics, e.g., types of scholarships available, criteria for selection, requirements for renewals, etc.
- Acts as resource person for the Scholarship Review Sub-Committee regarding non-renewal of awards / student appeals.
- Formulates spending plans for scholarship funds and produces reports on fund utilization / yields.
Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities
- Knowledge of admissions and worldwide school systems
- Knowledge of student scholarship programs.
- Experience advising students one-on-one.
- Must be detail-oriented to manage and update constant changes of information.
- High degree of flexibility in managing multiple files simultaneously, with the ability to prioritize and meet strict deadlines.
- High level of interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Client-focused and service oriented, with an ability to effectively communicate with internal and external contacts.
- Able to work autonomously and as part of a team.
- Proven ability to deal with confidential information with discretion.
- Must have demonstrated experience and ease with new technological applications.
- Computer literate with all Microsoft Office tools, MINERVA, Banner SIS and BSA.
- Public relations experience, an asset.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills:
- English, written and spoken.
- French, written, and spoken.

Bachelor’s Degree 3 Years Related Experience /
Annual Salary:
(MPEX Grade 04) $58,470.00 – $73,090.00 – $87,710.00
