(RN) Nurse Manager, Encinitas & Vista Cancer Svcs – 119006

Outpatient cancer services are provided at multiple hubs located throughout the region.

The Encinitas & Vista Nurse Manager is responsible and accountable for providing administrative and clinical leadership, with 24/7 responsibility, for staffing and operational oversight for Encinitas and Vista oncology practices, each with their own clinic and infusion centers. The Nurse Manager is directly responsible for clinic and infusion operation including nursing staff, medical assistants and infusion schedulers for both locations. This includes the development and maintenance of staff competencies and skills review, staff hiring, evaluations, providing education/training of staff for changes in treatments, policies or practices, as well as responsibility to purchase and maintain medical equipment used in these locations.

The Nurse Manager will provide frontline oversight of the daily operations of multiple clinics and both infusion sites for Vista and Encinitas offices. Responsible for ensuring that the clinics effectively utilize resources, provide excellent customer service, comply with regulatory and internal UCSD requirements, provide support for the physicians in their practices, provide hands-on clinical support for the nurses and staff when needed, and optimize the overall efficiency and function of the unit. Responsibility for quality improvement, staff engagement, and strategic planning. Works closely with cancer services leadership to help develop and integrate annual operational, capital and personnel budget. Performs other related tasks as required.

This position facilitates an atmosphere of interactive management and the development of collegial relationships among nursing personnel and other healthcare staff and faculty. A key responsibility of this position is to foster effective communication and teamwork and to promote a high functioning productive team in a supportive work environment.

This position assumes HR responsibilities of directly supervising staff, ensuring staff competence, evaluating staff, counseling staff including disciplinary actions, screening potential new hires and assisting with the interviewing and hiring of new employees, and effectively interfacing with both faculty physicians and divisional physician leadership. Works collaboratively with the Medical Director, Clinic Operations Supervisor, Nursing Supervisor Pharmacy Manager and Director of Nursing to ensure safe, effective, timely, and high quality care delivery and operational excellence. Position has frequent independent judgment in monitoring the day-to-day operation of the units with minimal administrative assistance/supervision.

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) is required.

  • Registered Nurse (RN) issued by the state of California.

  • BART or BLS at time of hire with commitment to get BART within six (6) months of hire date.

  • Minimum seven (7) years of recent related healthcare experience, including at least five (5) years of recent RN experience.

  • Minimum two (2) years working in a charge, supervisory or management level position in an outpatient oncology environment.

  • Strong clinic and infusion center staff management skills.

  • Practice management knowledge in staff scheduling, customer-service methods, regulatory compliance, accreditation requirements, and information technology.

  • Broad knowledge of patient population served and the requirements for the delivery of services.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Must have decision making, problem solving and prioritizing skills.

  • A Master’s Degree in Nursing (MSN) or health related field.

  • Chemo-Bio ONS certification.

  • OCN Certification.

  • Experience with Oncology Case Management.

  • Experience supervising in a moderate size infusion room and clinic environment.

  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.

  • Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
