Job Summary

Involves revenue cycle functions for the healthcare enterprise, including system billing, reporting, and support. Ensures account information contains accurate and comprehensive data to provide timely billing and optimal reimbursement for services. Impacts processes to include charge capture, coding, insurance identification, data entry, billing, payment posting, refund processing, and collections. May also be responsible for / integrated with business office operations.

Department Description

Faculty Practice Management Operations supports the Revenue Cycle functions for charge capture, coding, charge edits, authorizations, and RFI resolution supporting over 14 clinical departments and 50 clinical programs. Charge generation for the unit is roughly $2.8 billion dollars, supporting both Faculty Practice Operations and the Adult, Children’s, and Cancer Services.  The impact of revenue cycle work for this unit is felt by Faculty Practice Operations (FPO) and UCSF Health Inpatient Facilities.

Required Qualifications

  • A fundamental understanding of coding (CPT and ICD-9) and documentation requirements (for both billing and compliance), and the billing submission process.
  • Must be able to pass all classes related to the UCSF Medical Center’s computer systems as well as related UCSF coding and billing applications. May include off-site billing systems from partner hospitals
  • Detail-oriented, with organizational skills and the ability to manage time efficiently, prioritize tasks, and complete assignments consistently on schedule.
  • Knowledge of database, spreadsheet, and presentation software.
  • Basic communications skills, with the ability to interpret and present clinical financial information clearly and concisely.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to learn to evaluate workflows and systems.
  • Interpersonal skills to work effectively in a team environment with internal staff in a wide variety of business and clinical areas.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
  • Six months or more of related work experience & training
  • Prior clinical experience
  • Revenue cycle, finance or accounting experience strong computer skills; proficient in Excel, Word, PowerPoint
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Strong written and oral communications skills
  • Detail-oriented and have experience working with large data
  • Have great problem-solving skills, are independent, and have a “can do attitude”

License/Certification

  • Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Coding Associate (CCA), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or licensure equivalent to be evaluated by FPRMO management.
