Job Summary: 

A Respiratory Therapist IV is an RCP who has been trained and is independently functional in general ward therapy RT procedures, adult ventilator management, arterial puncture for blood gas analysis and “specialty functions” that have been adjudged appropriate to shift need and approved by the Director of the Division of Pulmonary/Critical Care Medicine. Respiratory Care Service “specialty functions” include: Emergency Dept RT procedures; Management of Pediatric-Neonatal Ventilators and Related adjuncts; Performance of Capillary Heelstick Venipunctures for bloodgas analysis; Performance of Bronchoscopy Assist RT Procedures; Operation of the Respiratory Care Department Computerized Order Entry and Dispatch System. A Respiratory Therapist IV is expected to function as assigned in the subspecialty areas in which he/she has been trained and adjudged functionally competent.

Educational Requirements:

Associates Degree in Respiratory Therapy or similar – minimum
Bachelors Degree in Respiratory Therapy or similar – Preferred
Master’s Degree in Respiratory Therapy or similar – Preferred

Licenses:

Basic Life Support (BLS)
RCP State License- Must be currently licensed by the State of California as a Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP.)
Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS/ALS)
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
Registered Resp Therapist RRT

Experience:

6 years

Physical Demands:

▪Must be able to lift and carry 25 lbs.
▪Must be able to move an H-size gas cylinder-and-cart as well as Departmental life support systems over Hospital floor surfaces.
▪Must be able to physically roll a 200 lb, horizontally positioned patient.
▪Must possess auditory and visual capabilities for responding to pulmonary life support alarms and related monitoring systems.
▪Must possess mathematics skills necessary to the clinical functions of the job.
▪Must possess oral and written communication skills sufficient for understanding and being understood by members of the Health Care Team.
