Organizational Unit Overview The East Carolina University, School of Medicine, Pediatric Outpatient Clinic provides outpatient medical care for children from birth to age 21. The clinic staff assists clients in obtaining diagnosis and treatment for acute and chronic illnesses as well as provides nursing care. Staff provides health education and access to information to enhance client health and to prevent illness. Staff provides for client comfort and safety while endeavoring to be as cost effective to keep medical costs down. The Pediatric Clinics are a service component of the Department of Pediatrics in the School of Medicine. These clinics are involved in the treatment of patients as a function of the training and education of medical students, physicians and allied health personnel in primary medical care on a regional consultative basis for eastern North Carolina.
Job Duties The purpose of this organizational unit is to work in junction with the Pulmonology team to provide clinical staff support to the Pulmonary department to care for patients with respiratory illnesses.
This position will serve as an extension of the physicians, but report to the Nurse Administrator of Clinical Operations. This position will assist in care coordination of respiratory management with the Pediatric Asthma team, C5 team, and cystic fibrosis team. The selected candidate will also serve as an educator for the patient population and their families regarding preventative health measures, disease, and disease management. The individual in this position will perform a variety of tasks with some detail, requiring general understanding and skill in the application of work procedures. The primary responsibility of this position is to ensure that patient needs are met efficiently and effectively.
The selected candidate will assist in the outpatient management of patients at the Pulmonology Clinic and to serve as a resource person for the education of learners.
Currently, hours of clinic operation are from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

The Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University is affiliated with ECU Health Medical Center, which serves as it’s teaching hospital, as well as the flagship hospital for ECU Health.
Minimum Education/Experience Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in the therapeutic specialty area to which assigned. Some positions may require additional training, certifications, or licensure in speech pathology, audiology, occupational therapy, physical therapy, or other fields. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
License or Certification required by statute or regulation Graduation from a 2 year associate program of respiratory therapy and current NCRCB licensure in North Carolina.
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education Prefer one year with Pediatric patients. At least three years of experience in pulmonary diagnostics environment with proficiency in spirometry, plethysmography and DLCO testing, pediatric respiratory therapist experience preferred. RPFT is preferred but CPFT will be considered
License or Certification required by the Department Current NCRCB licensure in North Carolina. BLS Healthcare Provider preferred. ACLS, PALS, NRP a plus.
