Description
Four (4) Resource Science Aides (RSAs) are needed to assist with a wild turkey capture and banding effort this winter (December 2022 – March 2023; 800 hours per position). The RSAs will be expected to work alongside other MDC staff to locate flocks of male turkeys, secure private land access permissions, bait wild turkeys into capture sites, capture flocks of turkeys using rocket nets, and band captured male turkeys. The hired RSAs will be required to undergo rocket net safety training and MDC vehicle driving and safety training. A work truck will be provided.

Qualifications
Applicants must:
• Possess a valid driver’s license and good driving record
• Be able to operate 4WD vehicles
• Be able to lift 50 lbs. & perform strenuous work under adverse conditions (ice, snow, rain, mud, freezing temperatures)
• Be willing to work irregular hours (early mornings, nights, weekends, and holidays) as needed to complete project objectives
• Have strong intrapersonal skills
o Must be able to coordinate field work activities with other RSAs and MDC staff
o Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively with private landowners as capturing turkeys on private lands will be a large portion of this effort
• Be able to work with minimal supervision and be self-directed
• Be a diligent record keeper
• Possess strong problem-solving skills

Preferred Qualifications: Prior experience capturing wildlife using rocket nets. BS in Wildlife Ecology or related field. CPR/First Aid certification. Experience establishing and maintaining relationships with private landowners, hunters, and other stakeholders.
