About the Role

We are recruiting for a Residential Welfare Officer to join the Residential Welfare Team, which, as part of the Residential Services Department supports almost 3000 students who are living in halls across three campuses and at our Postgraduate Halls at Stratford, East London.

The Residential Welfare Officer will assist in developing processes for supporting student wellbeing in halls, which includes supporting a significant number of students with mental health issues. The postholder will help promote student wellbeing in halls and will contribute to an annual events calendar to promote student wellbeing.

The post-holder will also assist in reviewing systems to manage discipline issues and complaint. The post-holder will be expected to assist with investigations and lead on student meetings, taking appropriate actions and educate students to ensure the best possible outcome for both the student and Queen Mary as a whole.

About You

Educated to A level standard with the ability to assist students in conflict situations, you will have recent experience of supporting university students living in halls. You will have a strong commitment to promoting student support and wellbeing. You’ll need to be process driven and have a high level of attention to detail, as note taking and record keeping is essential, to ensure transparent and fair processes are adhered to.

You will need to be fully aware of mental health issues and how this can impact on young adults as supporting students in such situations is an essential part of the role. Dealing with challenging situations is on-going, so the ability to step in and effectively deal with issues is essential, as is knowing when a situation needs to be escalated. You will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

The post is full time (35 hours a week) and permanent. Days of work are Sunday 8am to 4pm, and Monday – Thursday working from 9am to 5pm

Starting salary will be in the range of £29,642- £36,348 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where required this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based Immigration Scheme.
