Researcher (temporary)

At the Faculty of Medicine, Norwegian Centre of Excellence, Centre for Cancer Biomarkers (CCBIO) at the Department of Clinical Medicine, a full-time temporary position as researcher 1109 is available from 11 January 2023 to 30 June 2024.

The position is part of the project “Proteomics in breast cancer: Biomarkers for hypoxia-related tumor progression”, financed by a grant from CCBIO’s funding from the Research Council of Norway. The funding expires 30 June 2024.

About the project/work tasks:

• The researcher will be part of Program 2 through the project “Proteomics in breast cancer: Biomarkers for hypoxia-related tumor progression”
• The aim of the position is to continue the project in the most efficient manner possible without any delays due to methods training or needing to read up on the project
• The project aims to identify new biomarkers reflecting the tumor microenvironment and its complexity, in interactions between cancer cells and their surrounding cells, and the role of the tumor microenvironment in disease progression
• The project is focused on tumor progression, hypoxia, secreted proteins, cancer cell-originating signals to the tumor microenvironment, and proteomic profiling in breast cancer
• The position will focus on proteomics profiling and computational analysis of proteomics data. The researcher will perform analyses on the influence of hypoxia in tumor progression and differences between breast cancer subtypes

Qualifications and personal qualities:

• The applicant must hold a relevant Norwegian PhD or equivalent doctoral degree within breast cancer microenvironment and hypoxia responses
• Applicants must have a strong research background in cell biology, molecular biology, or related fields
• Experience with cell lines, cell culture experiments and cell secretome analysis is a requirement
• Experience with mass spectrometry-based proteomics analysis is required
• Experience with bioinformatics and computational analyses, including data analysis of proteomics data and network biology analysis, is required
• Experience with hypoxia exposure experiments in cell culture is preferred
• Experience with statistical analysis of patient data and survival analysis is preferred.
• Experience with protein analysis, such as western blotting and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays, is beneficial
• Applicants must be fluent in written and spoken English
• Emphasis will be put upon personal abilities. Applicants with documented ability to work independently, cooperate well, exhibit a high level of motivation and responsibility and have high working capacity and enthusiasm for scientific work will be preferred

It is very important that each of the scholarly works on which the committee should place special emphasis, is attached in its entirety.

The following premise forms the basis for the post as researcher:

• The researcher will be a member of the research group of which the topic/project belongs to
• The salary shall if possible be 100 % covered by external financing
• The researcher shall actively contribute to attract external funding to the research project, both for her/his own position and other positions, from the Research Council of Norway, EU and other sources
• The researcher is expected to have her/his research activity financed by the project of the researcher and the projects of the associated research group
• The Head of Department may allocate work for the Researcher related to specific research projects
• The researcher may participate in committee work and other administrative tasks within the University of Bergen
• The researcher has no teaching duties, but is expected to supervise master students and PhD candidates when this is a natural part of the research activity of the research group
• The researcher may apply for competence promotion according to the regulations for promotions
• The basis for the position ceases if no further project funding and new law on state officials etc. on dismissal and preferential rights will be applied to permanent employees
