Would you like to contribute to public health by studying wild- and vectorborne zoonses? Do you have a PhD on the interface of ecology, epidemiology and infectious diseases? Do you want to further develop and extend the evidence-based monitoring of emerging wildlife and vectorborne zoonoses? Then we are looking for you!

Job description

Your function

You will be part of the team that studies wildlife- and vectorborne zoonoses. This ranges from detection of pathogens and study of transmissiondynamics to pathobiomes of wild animals and vectors. You will set-up and organize various projects yourself and will help with ongoing projects. In most the ongoing projects the data has already been collected, so this involves mainly (statistical) analyses of data and publishing the results. It is therefore important to have demonstrable experience with this and that you are able to perform this independently. You participate in translation of results to practical insights to improve monitoring of wildlife and vectorborne zoonoses.

Activities and tasks

  • You initiate and organize projects
  • Depending on the projects there is the opportunity to perform field work to collect data, and/or to perform laboratory analyses.
  • You use statistics and modelling to analyse data
  • You publish the results together with other researchers involved in the projects
  • You maintain an (international) network within the projects and your field of expertise

Unique points of this job

Wildlife- and vectorborne research demands a broad perspective and multidisciplinaire collaboration. This makes the work challenging and varied, but also requires flexibility and excellent communication skills. Because the broad scope of the projects that you will work on, you will learn about many aspects of wildlife- and vectorborne related research. Because data is already available from various projects, this job offers the opportunity to write multiple publication.
