Position Description:
Purpose
The MCW Tissue Bank’s Research Technologist II will primarily assist the Bank’s Pathologists’ Assistant with many aspects of tissue procurement, quality control preparation and documentation. Additional responsibilities will include coverage for biofluid and consent processing and will perform other laboratory and administrative duties as required.
Primary Functions
- Prepare environment for tissue procurement including cleaning and stocking supplies.
- Assist Pathologists’ Assistant with tissue procurement by documenting and entering accurate information regarding surgical specimens to the clinical team and in the Tissue Bank’s software program.
- Use Epic to assess the surgical schedule daily for patients consented by the MCW Tissue Bank.
- Perform regular cleaning of surfaces, equipment, and instruments in the laboratory.
- Contact study representatives to coordinate cases and specimen pick up.
- Prepare, enter, and organize samples and data for quality control.
- Maintain and handle liquid nitrogen.
- Assist the Clinical Research Coordinator in blood processing, when needed. Assist in DNA and RNA isolation, when needed.
- Assist the Research Coordinator in data entry and managing the consent process.
Preferred Schedule:
M-F 8-5
Position Requirements:
Knowledge – Skills – Abilities
Knowledge of biology, chemistry, mathematics, documentation, and records management. Data utilization, complex problem solving, critical thinking, resource management, and writing skills.
Specifications
Appropriate experience may be substituted for education on an equivalent basis
Minimum Required Education: Bachelor’s degree
Minimum Required Experience: 1 year
Preferred Education:
Preferred Experience: Laboratory experience preferred
Field: Pathology, Anatomy & Physiology, Biology, or other sciences
