Research Technician

The Lab of Tumor Inflammation and Angiogenesis is embedded within the VIB-KU Leuven Center for Cancer Biology (CCB). The research topics of the lab span the fields of tumor and inflammation, focusing on functional characterization of the hypoxia-response, a key environmental cue of the tumor microenvironment, on the consequent involvement of tumor metabolism in dictating the immune landscape, and on how immune cell positioning within the tumor impacts on function and phenotypic skewing of immune cells. To address these points, we take advantage of tissue-specific gene targeting and pharmacologic approaches in mice and combine the phenotype discovery with an extensive phenotypic characterization.

The VIB Center for Cancer Biology (CCB) ( https://www.vibcancer.be ) is one of the research departments of VIB within the University of Leuven and is located in the University Hospital Campus, Leuven.  CCB hosts 13 research groups and in total represents a group of about 200 researchers, administrative and technical staff. The Center has a very diverse and highly international character, hosting researchers from at least 30 different countries.

The Lab of Massimiliano Mazzone is looking for a fulltime, highly motivated and dedicated Research Technician. The candidate will get the opportunity to train and work with a variety of experimental systems, from molecular to cellular biology to in vivo work.

Job

• You will be part of a young and international research team with innovative research projects
• You will be responsible for performing a wide range of research experiments in the area of molecular biology (WB, IP, RNA extraction, qPCR, PCR, Maxiprep cloning,..), cellular biology (cell culture, transfection, infection, cellular assays, FACS,…) and histology (embedding, sectioning, immunostaining, microscopical analysis)
• You will be involved in mouse tumor studies (tumor inoculation, measurements, drug treatments, standard dissections, surgery…)
• Being part of a team, you will participate in daily laboratory management

Profile

• You have a Bachelor/Master in Biomedical, Pharmaceutical or Medical sciences
• Experience in FACS analysis or sorting is considered a strong asset
• You have obtained a FELASA B certificate
• Experience in molecular biology and mouse experiments is considered a plus, energetic and determined starters are also very welcome
• You are strongly motivated and flexible to learn new things
• Being part of an international team you communicate fluently (written and spoken) in English

Het Laboratorium voor Tumorinflammatie en Angiogenese maakt deel uit van het VIB-KU Leuven Center

for Cancer Biology (CCB). Het onderzoek wordt gedaan in de domeinen van tumor en inflammatie, met de focus op de functionele karakteristieken van hypoxia-response (een sleutelfactor van de tumor micro-omgeving), op de invloed van tumormetabolisme op de opbouw van het immuunlandschap, en op hoe immuuncelpositionering binnen in de tumor invloed heeft op de functie en de fenotypische verandering van immuuncellen. Om deze punten aan te pakken, maken we gebruik van weefselspecifieke gen-targeting en farmacologische benaderingen in muizen, en combineren we fenotype ontdekkingen met een uitgebreide fenotypische karakterisering.

Het VIB Center voor Kankerbiologie (CCB) is één van de onderzoekscentra van het Vlaams Instituut Biotechnologie (VIB) aan de KU Leuven, gelegen op de Campus van het UZ Gasthuisberg.  Het CCB bestaat vandaag uit een 13 onderzoeksgroepen met een 200 onderzoekers, administratief- en technisch personeel.  Het Center heeft een heel divers en internationaal karakter met onderzoekers uit een 30-tal verschillende landen.

Functie

Het Labo kijkt uit naar een voltijdse, zeer gemotiveerde en toegewijde laboratoriumtechnoloog.

De kandidaat zal de kans krijgen om te werken met een variatie aan experimentele systemen, van moleculaire tot celbiologie en in vivo werk.

• Je maakt deel uit van een jong en internationaal onderzoeksteam met vernieuwende onderzoeksprojecten
• Je volgt mee het beheer van de muizenkolonies op (nemen van stalen, uitvoeren van genotyperingen, beheren van de online database, ..)
• Je bent verantwoordelijk voor de uitvoering van een brede selectie van onderzoeksexperimenten op gebied van moleculaire biologie (o.a. WB, IP, RNA extraction, qPCR, PCR, Maxiprep cloning,..), cellulaire biologie (celcultuur, transfectie, infectie, celanalyse, FACS,) en histologie (embedding, sectioning, immunostaining, microscopical analysis)
• Je wordt betrokken bij tumorstudies in muizen (tumorinoculatie, metingen, behandelingen, standaard dissecties,…)
• Als lid van een team, zal je ook deelnemen aan het dagelijks beheer van het labo

Profiel

• Je hebt een Bachelor in de Biomedische, Farmaceutische of Medische Laboratoriumtechnologie behaald of Life Sciences of je hebt een gelijkwaardige ervaring opgebouwd
• Je bent in het bezit van een FELASA B certificaat
• Je bent zeer gemotiveerd, flexibel en leergierig
• Enthousiaste en gedreven starters zijn ook zeer welkom
• Gezien je deel uitmaakt van een internationaal team communiceer je vloeiend (spreken en schrijven) in het Engels
