This is a grant funded position located in Knoxville, TN.

 

JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: This position will support the research of the Joseph Jackson, the primary investigator of the oncolytic virus laboratory by performing pre-clinical animal model (mouse) experiments, monitoring animals post experiment, performing wet lab experiments, and daily lab maintenance. The Jackson lab works to address the unmet need in the field of amyloidosis and develop methods that inspire myeloid cells to recognize, phagocytize, and then subsequently clear amyloid deposits safely within the body. The lab studies the interaction between the human brain cancer, glioblastoma (GBM), and an oncolytic herpes simplex virus (oHSV). Engineer oncolytic herpes simplex viruses to combat glioblastoma with the impetus on arming oHSV with immunotherapeutic payloads designed to induce anti-tumor immunity. This position will work on both projects as needed.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Performs murine brain surgery to implant glioblastoma tumor cells within mouse brains then subsequently treat the tumors with oncolytic viral vectors.
  • Monitors and handle animals’ post-surgery daily.
  • Performs experiments at the direction of the primary investigator.
  • Ensures laboratory is stocked with needed items for experimentation and maintain lab cleanliness.

    Qualifications

     

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:  

     

    EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree in one of the sciences. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)

     

    EXPERIENCE: Combination of college course and work experience to equal 8 years. Exposure to animal experimentation is required.  This is a grant funded position located in Knoxville, TN.
