The University of Pittsburgh’s Kitzes Lab in Pittsburgh, PA, seeks a Research Technician to contribute to analysis of acoustic biodiversity data sets. Will work on the development and application of methods for identifying the species present in field audio recordings, including (i) assist in the deployment of acoustic recording hardware; (ii) manage large acoustic data sets; (iii) apply machine learning models to identify species present in audio data; (iv) use statistical models to estimate species occupancy and abundance; and (v) annotate audio for species presence.
Must have a bachelor’s degree (or foreign equivalent degree) in Ecology, Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field plus two (2) years of experience in a related position.
Must also have any experience with or knowledge of: (i) analysis of audio data, (ii) intermediate to advanced computing tasks, including programming in Python or a related language and working at the command line; (iii) independently creating and applying machine learning models using frameworks built into Tensorflow and other similar packages; (iv) analyzing data on local, cluster, and/or cloud platforms; (v) fitting statistical models; (vi) working with databases; and (vii) writing scientific manuscripts and communicating the results of scientific analyses.
Experience can be concurrent.
