NAIT’s Centre for Sensors and System
Integration (CSSI) is a Technology Access Centre (TAC) staffed with
professional researchers to support Alberta businesses on Applied Research
& Development projects that deliver a new product, an improved service, or
a more efficient process. Businesses
across all major Alberta industry sectors have identified digital
transformation as being the critical next step in their operational
evolution. CSSI helps address their
challenges through prototyping activities in preparation for later
commercialization, which in turn enhance their productivity, competitiveness,
and innovation. We may be automating a
manual process, trialing the use of existing technology in an innovative way,
sourcing an idea from another industry and developing a tool to meet the
application, or designing and building something novel.
CSSI is looking to expand the team’s
technical expertise to meet growing research needs in the areas of microelectronic
systems integration, embedded systems, automation, data management, and
customized circuit design and implementation. The ideal candidate has strong knowledge
on sensors, circuits, and have practical experiences in electronic systems
integration involving switching and/or multiplexing circuits. This position
requires expertise and skills of hardware design, data acquisition, and sensor
networking. Solid knowledge and experience in microcontroller based complex
system design and implementation will be required.
Key Responsibilities:
- The position
is responsible for design and implementation of electronic control, data
acquisition, and communication systems for industry funded applied research
projects. - Teamwork
with experts in innovative and novel technological solutions on industry challenges.
Skills & Abilities:
Technical
Skills in the following categories are necessary:
- Electronic
circuit design and simulation. - Internet of
Things (IoT) based system design involving data acquisition and system control. - Microcontroller
based embedded system design, firmware development and implementation. - Sensor
networking through wireless, cellular or Wi-Fi connectivity. - Data
analytics and programming skills (e.g., MATLAB, C++, Python). - Microcontroller
interfacing with windows and Raspberry Pi OS.
Working
knowledge or familiarity with the following will be an asset:
- FPGA
programming and circuit implementation. - PCB design
and implementation. - Machine
learning and deep learning.
Qualifications:
- 4th
year or 3rd year students in Electrical Engineering, Computer
Engineering programs, or related discipline.
Remuneration: $17.01
hourly (Classification – Student Research Assistant)
This position is covered by the AUPE
(Alberta Union of Provincial Employees) Collective Agreement.
