Library and Cultural Services provides high quality, innovative and user-centred support for research, learning and teaching across the University. We work in partnership with academic departments, professional services, Students’ Union, students and staff, and external partners, to ensure we provide excellent services and support for our researchers, students and staff, at every stage of their Essex journey. We have a commitment to customer service excellence and continuous improvement and were shortlisted for the Times Higher Education Award ‘Outstanding Library Team’ in 2021. This is an exciting time to join us as we implement our new Library Supporting Strategy to 2025.
Duties of the Role
Working closely with the Open Research Development Librarian, the Research Services Coordinator is responsible for developing and delivering research services training and support, coordinating and planning face-to-face and online training for academic staff and research students. Alongside this, the Research Services Coordinator will manage the administration of the Essex Student Journal, as well as playing a key role in the promotion of opportunities Essex Researchers have to publish their work open access. The Research Services Coordinator will also assist with the creation of guidelines and good practice material to actively engage with and support academic staff and research students. The Research Services Coordinator will also work with the Academic Liaison Librarians and other Academic and Research Services Coordinators in the delivery of information and digital literacy programmes for students.
Skills and qualifications required
The post-holder will be educated to degree level, and a professional qualification, such as a postgraduate qualification in library or information science, a teaching qualification, or HEA Fellowship, is desirable. You will have practical experience of planning and delivering training, and a commitment to providing excellent customer service and support for students and academic staff. You must have excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of staff and library users. Whilst not essential, knowledge and understanding of the scholarly communication and academic publishing landscape is desirable.
At the University of Essex, internationalism and diversity is central to who we are and what we do. We are committed to being a cosmopolitan, internationally oriented university that is welcoming to staff and students from all countries, faiths and backgrounds, where you can find the world in one place.
To support this commitment we have our Global Forum , a staff-led network that promotes and celebrates the rich cultural diversity among Essex staff, and our Colchester campus based Faith Centre , which hosts regular services, meetings and events organised by our chaplains and faith representatives.
