Research Scientist and Career Fellow in Cancer Genomic Informatics and Data Science

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and self-motivated Scientific Career Fellow to join the Oxford Precision Oncology for Sarcoma team (OxPOS). The post-holder will be based mainly in the Sir William Dunn School of Pathology but will be expected to be involved with the OxPOS team members in Big Data Institute and the Oxford University Hospitals. 

The post-holder will be working as the lead scientific fellow for the OxPOS cancer research programme. You will have core genomic informatics and data science responsibility, taking leadership and setting the direction and delivery of a significant component of the objectives that also incorporates developing your own scientific ideas and skills, as well as developing management experience of OxPOS team members.  You will contribute research proposals, bids for research grants, peer reviewed publications and to write milestone programme reports.  You will develop research objectives within a clear and discrete area of the wider research programme. The post-holder will design and execute novel data science approaches towards experimental validation in a real-world precision oncology environment. You will supervise a post-doctoral scientist, data IT manager and research assistant as well as jointly supervise DPhil graduate and undergraduate students.

The successful candidate should hold a PhD/DPhil/doctoral training programme in genomics data science, informatics, machine learning, statistical genomics or a related subject. You will have strong computational data science and genomic informatics skills, with a substantial postdoctoral experience in areas relevant to the field of precision oncology. You should have a good understanding of the principles of molecular and cell biology related to cancer. You should possess excellent organisational and time management skills and being able to work independently using your own initiative, and also as part of a team. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to interact equally effectively with senior academic staff, researchers and support staff are essential.
