Applications are invited for the post of Research Project Officer (RPO) within the Research Development Office for a Specified Purpose Contract. The Research Project Officer will work with other colleagues in the Research Development Office (RDO) and report to the Head of EC Funding and the Research Development Manager.

The RPO will facilitate the implementation of the supports and targets outlined in unit plans, by utilization of a twin track approach of increased participation in Horizon Europe and better-quality applications. KPIs for the role will be linked directly to activities designed to increase research income to TCD from EC sources, including in the draft RDO strategy, and under the current HEA Compact. The RPO will have cognizance of the College’s research strategy and relevant national and international funding strategies, and this will inform their work. In general, it is expected that the RPO will be active in opportunity identification, consortium building, networking activities and proposal development and will provide a resource/support for researchers getting involved in Horizon Europe.

Qualifications: Candidates for this post should have a university degree and a postgraduate degree would be an advantage.

Post status: Specific Purpose Contract 

Hours of Post: 35 hours per week

Salary: This appointment will be made on the Administrative 2 Salary Scale (€50,981 – €59,902) per annum) at a point in line with current Government pay policy. monthly/weekly payscales. (tcd.ie)

  • As required above, candidates must have experience of research and research administration experience as well as having knowledge of the challenges facing the research funding environment in Ireland, Europe and internationally. Applicants should clearly address this experience, how they obtained their knowledge and articulate the challenges facing the research funding environment in Ireland and Europe.
  • An understanding of the research process of writing successful applications for research sponsor (preferably European Framework funding) is essential. The applicant should give examples of involvement in competitive research proposal writing indicating the scale of budget involved, the outcome and what the applicant learned from the process.
  • Illustrate, through past example, their ability to work on their own initiative and resolve problems
