Job Description

This is an exciting new position with considerable independence to help lead current and future funded research initiatives at a dynamic center that conducts cutting edge healthcare and health related research. This position will serve as a research associate to conduct project management functions, grant writing, analysis, technical writing and deliverables for center studies.

Essential Duties

  • Works with faculty, data scientists, staff, and students to plan, implement and manage research and non-research activities; defines project scope, strategy, budget, project infrastructure and outcomes; identifies and acquires resource expertise and targets to ensure timely delivery of project outcomes.
  • Maintains applications and systems to aid in the effective administration of projects and activities.
  • Establishes project expectations with team; re-sets expectations as needed in consideration of project progress/outcomes.
  • Leads the writing of grant proposals for externally funded research.
  • Performs independent studies and literature searches on subjects relevant to studies or proposals.
  • Identifies funding opportunities relevant to Center areas of expertise.
  • Completes task definitions and identifies work requirements and assignments.
  • Prepares and maintains all project status reports and schedules; tracks milestones/deliverables, critical paths and dependencies.
  • Responds to all inquiries regarding project status; prepares and responds to all regulatory reporting/filings to ensure compliance.
  • Prepares all post-project reports, budget allocations and summaries/filings to ensure timely dissemination of information to all interested parties.
  • Proactively identifies, develops and deploys solutions to improve effectiveness of project operations.
  • Develops and maintains collaborative working relationships with multiple stakeholders within project scope.
  • Utilizes knowledge of project purpose and scope in decision making and risk assessment, understanding impact on outcomes/success.
  • Assists in the delivery of presentations and assists in writing manuscripts, articles, and technical reports.
  • Completes other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a related field and five (5) years related experience; two (2) of which are in project management.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience working in multidisciplinary research teams
  • Experience working with health data
  • Evidence of a CAPM (Certified Associate in Project Management): Equivalent of 1 year of project management experience.
  • Evidence of a PMP (Project Management Professional): Equivalent of 2 years of project management experience.
  • Evidence of a PgMP (Program Management Professional): Equivalent of 4 years of project management experience.

  • Ability to clearly communicate
  • Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities, may include/subject to resolutions of conflicts
  • Use of software/computer equipment for extended periods of time
  • Use of critical thinking to make decisions and/or analyze and report data/results of tests conducted
  • Adherence to data privacy and security standards, i.e., HIPAA/HITECH

The College of Health Solutions (CHS) is dedicated to translating scientific advances into practical interventions to improve health outcomes through education, research and service. We equip students with the knowledge and skills to influence healthier lifestyle choices; develop creative interventions to improve the health of people and populations; analyze and translate large amounts of health data into solutions; and maximize the technology, science, business and application of diagnostics. CHS research programs encompass basic, discovery science, clinical trials, intervention science and measurement of health outcomes. CHS takes an interdisciplinary approach to address the complex systems that underpin health problems. The current training programs include behavioral health, biomedical diagnostics, biomedical informatics, exercise science, health promotion, health sciences, kinesiology, medical studies, nutrition, population health, science of health care delivery, and speech and hearing science. Our programs are offered at ASU’s Downtown Phoenix, Tempe, Polytechnic, West and Lake Havasu campuses, as well as on Mayo Clinic’s campus in north Phoenix.
