JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Penn State College of Medicine, Department of Medicine, in Hershey, PA is seeking a Research Project Manager 1 (RPM1). This full time RPM1 position will support the Van Scoy Research Lab as part of a collaborative team.  The RPM1 will serve as a project manager of a research portfolio of projects related to communication quality analysis (CQA; training provided). The RPM1 will also serve as a research project manager on an NIH funded randomized controlled trial the Project Talk Trial; www.projecttalk.org) in a non-management role.  The RPM1 position will likely grow to supervise 3-4 wage payroll employees.

The successful candidate will be a collaborative person with strong interpersonal skills and background in working with quantitative data, including a working knowledge of REDCap databases. Qualitative research experience is helpful, but not required. Working with human subjects including some travel to research sites by air or car will be required.

Tasks include:

Institutional Review Board (IRB)

  • Responsible for CQA-project IRBs
  • Assists with Project Talk IRBs or other projects

Recruitment and Data Collection

  • Responsible for recruitment of human participants for CQA projects
  • Assists with design of recruitment materials
  • Responsible for CQA data collection
  • Supervises CQA project research staff, including phone calls for CQA projects
  • Assists with phone calls for Project Talk and other projects
  • Responsible for all project data entry and database management
  • Assists with qualitative coding
  • Travel by air or car to research sites for data collection as part of the Project Talk Trial

Analysis

  • Assists with data analysis and data cleaning
  • Assists with qualitative data analysis (training provided)
  • Collaborates with statistical team and data managers

Materials and Dissemination

  • Assists with manuscript submission
  • Assists with grant reporting
  • Assists with designing presentation slides/materials/websites
  • Assists with social media
  • Responsible for manuscript formatting
  • Responsible for manuscript submission

Budgets and Reporting

  • Responsible for CQA Project timelines
  • Tracks CQA budgets
  • Assists with CQA grant reporting

Administrative

  • Schedules meetings

Other

  • Other duties as assigned
  • Collaborates with research staff teammates and senior investigators

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS

  • Strong multi-tasking abilities and demonstrated flexibility
  • Excels in data handling, including Excel spreadsheets and REDCAP databases
  • Working knowledge of basic research procedures (scientific method, good record keeping practices, data validation, data protection/privacy)
  • High level of attention to detail
  • Willingness to collaborate with team members, including pivoting from serving as a project lead to a project assistant based on the project
  • Strong management skills
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Effective verbal and email communication
  • Timeliness and clarity in reporting project status to team members and preparing deliverables
  • A commitment to professionalism and lifelong learning
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Outlook
  • Familiarity with statistical software (such as SPSS or SAS) is preferred

QUALIFICATIONS

TYPICAL EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

2+ years related experience

Bachelor’s Degree or higher (Master’s preferred)

Or an equivalent combination of education and experience

This is a limited-term position funded for one year from date of hire, with possibility of refunding.

  • Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Background Check  
  • Pennsylvania Child Abuse History
  • Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Criminal Background Check
