Under supervision, the Research Project Coordinator will collaborate with the PI and help coordinate multidisciplinary research projects in the Department of Psychiatry. Duties will include laboratory management, overseeing maintenance of laboratory equipment, and research data management. Independently conduct research on projects focused on understanding the role of genetics, metabolism, microbiome, and brain networks have on the development of addiction.

Will oversee laboratory budget and grants management, and serve as a liaison with external researchers, internal departments, and external vendors. Will assist in the production of peer-reviewed manuscripts and progress reports. Monitor progress and identify potential and actual problems with the research workflow. Stay abreast of current and existing literature in the field. Monitor funding opportunities for PI and other project staff. Provide technical feedback and work guidance to research personnel. Ensure compliance with research unit, Department, University, State, and Federal safety-related mandates and guidelines.

  • Proven ability to develop and refine broadly outlined research studies Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), projects and protocols.

  • Experience and familiarity with DEA, EH&S, IACUC compliance requirements. Experience preparing and submitting continuing review materials, amendments, and other regulatory documents to these entity.

  • Outstanding scientific English writing and editing skills. Knowledge of technical reports and publishable scientific research papers.

  • Working knowledge of financial accounting, contracts and grants combined with experience in fiscal and budget related matters including but not limited to review budgets and track expenditures.

  • Proficient computer skills using MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google Suite and email. Ability to use software to create reports, charts and presentations to be used in publications and grants. Ability to learn new programs with minimal direction.

  • Ability to make independent decisions, analyze situations, solve problems, and initiate actions for effective program and project management. Strong analytical and critical thinking skills to identify problems and develop innovative solutions.

  • Strong ability to express verbally or in writing, information on one’s position, plan of action, evaluation or interpretation in a professional, logical, clear, effective, concise, and courteous manner. Skill at negotiating with various personalities and developing internal and external network of contacts.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills including tact, diplomacy and flexibility with the ability to work in a team framework in conjunction with principles of community with staff, faculty and students. Participate and contribute to discussions regarding procedures and goals of department.

  • Experience providing direction to personnel (i.e. postdoc, research assistants, grad students, student staff/volunteers, etc.) including but not limited to, assigning/prioritizing workload to meet required research objectives, complaint resolution, and using good judgment in addressing and effectively dealing with personnel related matters.

  • Proficiency with the use of Microsoft Teams, Sharepoint, OneDrive, and Planner.

  • Knowledge of on-line financial and personnel systems (i.e. IFIS, PPS, Blink, Link Family, MyEvents, MyTravel, Marketplace, MyTime, etc.).

  • Ability to learn new software for data management and communication (Slack, Smartsheet).

  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check.

  • Must be able to work occasional evenings and weekends as required to keep steady workflow and meet deadlines.

If applicable, life-support certifications (BLS, NRP, ACLS, etc.) must include hands-on practice and in-person skills assessment; online-only certification is not acceptable.
