Research Professor (Level E) and Deputy Director Institute for Evidence-Based Healthcare

The Research Professor(Level E)and Deputy Director(and potential future Director) is expected to exercise a special responsibility in providing leadership in their field/discipline and profession, within the Institute for Evidence-Based Healthcare, the University, and the community. They should make a distinguished personal contribution and foster excellence in research, university service, staff management, professional activities, commerce and/or policy development within the University.

This appointment will contribute to the leadership, management and strategic direction of the Institute, as well as leading a program of clinical research that aligns with the major Institute themes of evidence-based care, non-drug interventions, antimicrobial resistance, and improving research quality. Responsibility will be to support the Institute Director to manage and lead teams across the diverse research and contract portfolios of the Institute both at Bond University and at the Institute’s Evidence-Based Practice Professorial Unit within the Gold Coast Hospital & Health Service (GCHHS). The portfolio includes the current streams of work in research and education, and new portfolios of research and teaching, contracting and advisory services, and philanthropy. Research responsibilities also include support for Institute personnel and students. 

Reporting directly to the Director of the Institute, the Research Professor and Deputy Director is a significant role that requires research, academic and business leadership skills and experience.  The Institute’s vision for the Research Professor and Deputy Director is to play a leadership role that will continue to build momentum and drive a culture of growth, advance research capacity and performance, and increase our financial independence. 

In the context of intended retirement of the Institute Director Professor Paul Glasziou AO at the end of 2024, the successful applicant would be expected to transition into the role of Institute Director and lead this globally influential team into the future. Appointment to the role of Director will be subject to a range of pre-agreed conditions including research and team outcomes, engagement, partnerships, success in competitive grants and other aligned contract, teaching, and research opportunities.

The Research Professor and Deputy Director will primarily be located at Bond University Campus, Robina but will spend part of their time at the Gold Coast University Hospital, Southport. We would welcome candidates interested in further developing the Institute’s role within Health Services such as GCHHS and in potential clinical roles at GCUH.
