There’s a certain feeling you get from working at Monash University. It’s the feeling that you’re a part of something special. Something significant. And that’s because you’re not just starting your career, or taking on a bigger challenge. You’re making a real contribution – surrounded by energetic, inspiring people who are driven to make a difference as well. Monash is a place where you’ll be able to develop your career in exciting, sometimes unexpected ways – putting you in the best possible position for a rewarding future.

The Opportunity

An excellent opportunity is available for a Research Officer to join the Bacterial Pathogenesis Laboratory at Monash University – an ARC-funded team working on understanding how the bacterial pathogen Pasteurella multocida causes disease and how we can develop improved vaccines to prevent disease.

The focus of the role will be to understand how this bacteria makes important surface polysaccharides and how these impact both its ability to cause disease and the host immune response to infection. You will utilise a variety of molecular biology approaches to modify the polysaccharides made by the bacterium and then use a range of phenotypic assays to assess how these changes affect its biology.

You will also be responsible for research work that requires molecular biology techniques such as PCR, cloning, and genomic analysis, microbiological techniques and routine management of the laboratory.

Ideally we are seeking someone with a tertiary qualification in Microbiology, demonstrated laboratory research experience, has Molecular biology skills including PCR, gene cloning and DNA sequencing, and has a good understanding of basic bioinformatics techniques.

If this sounds like a position that suits your current career focus we look forward to hearing from you.

This role is a full-time position; however, flexible working arrangements may be negotiated.

Your application must address the selection criteria. Please refer to  “How to apply for Monash Jobs “.

We encourage applications from First Nations people, culturally and linguistically diverse people, people with disabilities, neurodiverse people, and people of all genders, sexualities and age groups.
