Monash University’s Faculty of Medicine Nursing and Health Sciences is seeking to appoint a dedicated and detail oriented Research Officer to support the operations of the new 3-year Grant from mRNA Victoria Activation Program titled “A universal platform for affinity purification of RNA”.
The successful applicant will perform a range of complex research activities that play a critical role in supporting the development of affinity purification methods for mRNA purification. Including undertaking in vitro transcription of RNA, recombinant protein expression and purification and characterization of protein-RNA interactions, while ensuring a compliant and safe research environment.
You will work closely with Dr Qi Zhang to understand the research requirements and operate with excellence in process and judgement to provide efficient research services.
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- An honours degree in honours degree in Biochemistry or Molecular Biology and experience with molecular biology techniques, protein expression and purification
- Excellent technical, research and analytical skills, ability to project manage and understanding of confidentiality, privacy and research ethics

The Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology is the largest of the five departments in the School of Biomedical Sciences. Research and teaching in the department encompasses six broad themes: cell biology, signal transduction, host/pathogen interaction, structural biology, immunology and developmental biology.
Our research is highly relevant to major human diseases and pathological processes, including infection, inflammation, diabetes and obesity, developmental and degenerative disorders, cardiovascular disease, and cancer. The Department has been ranked as the premier Department in its discipline since the inception of ARC benchmarking of Australian Departments in 1998.
