UEA has some of the most innovative and highly regarded centres for research in the UK. Applications are invited for the post of Laboratory Technician to assist in the research under the supervision of Prof Jonathan Todd and Dr Ben Miller to study “microbial DMSP cycling in plants” which is funded through an a joint BBSRC and NERC grant.

The aim of the project is to study the prevalence of DMSP in diverse plant species and the diversity of microbes cycling DMSP associated to the plants.

The successful applicant must be experienced in quantification of DMSP and DMS stocks, and synthesis and catabolic rates from plant and soil samples. You will also isolate and characterise DMSP catabolic bacteria from plant samples. You will be responsible for appropriately archiving lab microbes and environmental samples. There is an expectation to provide advice and demonstrate techniques to students in their discipline and to help manage lab safety and resourcing. You will be based at the University of East Anglia in the School of Biological Sciences.

Significant laboratory experience and bacterial culturing methods are required along with strong oral and written communication skills. 

This full-time post is available immediately, on a fixed-term basis until 22 June 2023.
