Research Laboratory Technician II

The University of Southern California (USC), founded in 1880, is the largest private employer in the City of Los Angeles. As an employee of USC, you will be a part of a world-class research university and a member of the “Trojan Family.” The USC Neurosurgery oncology department is interested in applying animal models and genetic techniques to patient derived tumor studies conducted at the newly constructed Zilkha Neurogenetic Institute. The Department of Neurosurgery is seeking a full-time fixed term Research LabTech II.

The Research Laboratory Technician II position will involve basic molecular biology, histology, microscopy, and animal husbandry in the process of studying brain tumors. The candidate must be able to perform western immunoblotting, immunohistochemical staining, light and fluorescence microscopy, fluorescence associated cell sorting, rodent genotyping including PCR, basic rodent surgical procedures, and related techniques. Looking for someone with expertise in molecular biology (including virus infection, qPCR and western blotting) and mammalian cell culture. The candidate must have proficient communication skills, knowledge with a variety of computer programs for word processing, statistics, and image analysis. Would be advantageous to have previous year(s) of dedicated laboratory experience. The experience offers opportunity for manuscript publications, and multiple prior laboratory staff have published and gone on to very successful graduate and medical school, residency, and biotechnology firm positions.

Minimum Education: Associate’s degree, Specialized/technical training, Combined experience/education as substitute for minimum education

Minimum Experience: 2 years

Minimum Field of Expertise: Working knowledge of laboratory equipment and research protocols. Knowledge of computer analysis techniques and ability to provide routine analysis and interpretation of research data.
