Research Internship Program

Provides opportunities for graduate students and recent graduates to do energy-related research at the National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL).

NETL is part of the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) national laboratory system. NETL offers this program through Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE). NETL implements a broad spectrum of energy and environmental research and development (R&D) programs including enabling domestic coal, natural gas, and oil to economically power our Nation’s homes, industries, businesses, and transportation, as well as protecting our environment and enhancing our energy independence.

Interns will work with innovative scientists and current technology to carry out applied and basic research. They will be mentored and will use what they have learned in the classroom to conduct research. NETL has three primary locations: Albany, Oregon; Morgantown, West Virginia; and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Eligibility & Requirements

Must be or graduate student in good standing at a regionally accredited college/university.
OR, a post-baccalaureate within 1 year of graduation.
Must have an overall GPA of at least 2.5.
Must have an interest in energy-related technologies.
