Requirements
You will be involved in one main project and contribute your expertise to other related projects at Nordregio. The main project you will be engaged in, ILLUQ, is an EU-funded initiative focusing on connecting links between permafrost, pollution, and health in the Arctic. Specifically, you will contribute to identifying ecosystem services in several study sites in the Arctic. We are looking for a researcher with the following profile:
- PhD in geography (either human or physical), environmental social science, or a related discipline.
- Expertise in one or more of the following areas is preferred: ecosystem services, land use, climate change impacts on ecosystems and populations, One Health, or pollution.
- Experience with quantitative (e.g., advanced spatial analysis, statistics, data processing) research methods.
- Experience with qualitative (e.g., case studies, survey development and analysis, action research) research methods is valued.
- Interest in being involved in multidisciplinary projects.
- Ability to work independently and take a creative approach to solving complex problems.
- Ability to work in teams and contribute to developing new projects.
- Ability to disseminate complex results to a wide audience, including colleagues and stakeholders.
- Experience working with rural areas or the Arctic is advantageous.
- Fluent in English. Scandinavian language is not necessary but an advantage.
- You have a work permit in one of the EES-countries.
Main Work Tasks
- Perform and participate in research projects in collaboration with senior researchers.
- Work independently with the collection and processing of data and with tasks of a practical and administrative character.
- Perform analyses and write reports under the guidance of a more experienced researcher.
- Conduct field trips within Nordregio’s geographical focus areas, including the Arctic.
- Contribute to tendering and dissemination of Nordregio research.
What we offer
The position starts in January – or subject to agreement, 2025. Nordregio offers competitive salaries and a two-years contract with possible extension to a maximum length of a total of eight years. If you are currently employed by the State in a Nordic country, you are entitled to a leave of absence from your present position for the duration of your employment at Nordregio according to the agreement “Avtale om rettstilling for samnordiske institusjoner og deres ansatte”.
