As a Research Fellow (Senior Trial Manager), the successful candidate will take a leading role in the development, management and delivery of trials within the Infections, Inflammation & Immunity Division. This will involve responsibility for the study life cycle, from grant application to paper submission, to support the delivery of the Centre’s trial portfolio. The role will involve team management, ensuring projects are run to schedule, are financially accountable and run to UK regulatory standards.
With a postgraduate degree at PhD level or relevant experience, you will need to be an excellent organiser and have a proven ability to prioritise and meet deadlines. Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) are also essential in addition to experience of conducting and organising multi-centre trials or studies in a health environment. You will need to have previously written protocols, grants and publications and possess knowledge of scientific principles and current legal, governance and ethical requirements of both Investigational Medicinal Product (IMP) and non-IMP trials.

This is a full-time (35 hours per week), open-ended post available from 1st November 2022 but applications for different working patterns (e.g. alternative hours) and secondments are equally welcome.
Salary: £44,737 – £51,805 per annum (Grade 7)
The Centre operates a range of flexible and family-friendly policies, offers a generous pro-rata annual leave entitlement (37 days) and an employer contribution pension scheme. Business needs will require some degree of office-based working but the balance of time can be spent in the office or remotely (subject to agreement with the line manager)

Job Description
Main Function
To lead or work within research projects, to contribute to the research record of the Centre through commitment to carrying out research leading to the publishing of work in high-quality journals. To pursue excellence in research and to lead others to do the same.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Research
- To independently develop research objectives within infections, Inflammation and Immunity (I3), projects or proposals for own or joint research including research funding acting as a PI as required. To develop research networks through regular national/international conference/seminar presentations
- Manage and lead the trial teams in I3, ensuring section objectives are communicated and engaged with, planning, organising and delegating work, monitoring progress and intervening as required
- To generate and pursue independent and original research ideas in the field of applied health & social care and support the initiation of new lines of research in related areas
- To disseminate research findings using appropriate and effective national and international publications, research seminars, meetings and conferences
- To build and create networks both internally and externally to the university, to influence decisions, explore future research requirements, and share research ideas for the benefit of research projects
- To supervise and develop other research staff within own research projects
- To provide guidance to students in own specialist area, including supervising and assessing undergraduate projects
- To participate in Centre research activities.
- Ensure that work is undertaken and documented in a regulatory compliant way and be prepared for regular audits and inspections, as well as contributing to the development of the Quality management system for the area of infections & devices.
Other
- To engage effectively with industrial, commercial and public sector organisations, professional institutions, other academic institutions etc., regionally and nationally to raise awareness of the Centre’s profile, to cultivate strategically valuable alliances, and to pursue opportunities for collaboration across a range of activities. These activities are expected to contribute to the Centre and the enhancement of its regional and national profile.
