You will join our group and take on a role on the flagship project  “QUDOS” Project (EPSRC EP/T028475/1) focusing on the monolithic integration of quantum dot lasers with silicon photonics based circuits. This will provide an ideal opportunity to enhance your skills as you will work in collaboration with academic partners (University College London, University of Cambridge and Cardiff University) and industrial partners including Microsoft, Rockley photonics UK, Airbus or Leonardo  . The candidate will join a fast growing team of over 40 researchers focussing on the field of Silicon Photonics, based within the state-of-the-art Zepler Institute Cleanroom Facilities (http://www.zeplerinstitute.com/facilities ) at the University of Southampton.  The project will be undertaken under the supervision of Dr Frederic Gardes (https://gp-iv-photonics.org ).

The candidate will have a strong experience in group IV or group III/V semiconductor materials and will be able to demonstrate experience in semiconductor device fabrication in a clean room environment.

The applicant must also have a background in laboratory photonic experimentation with critical evaluation and interpretation of data. It is expected that they will hold a PhD* or equivalent qualification related to semiconductor processing or integrated photonics. Experience in silicon photonics (group IV) or  group III/V based semiconductor material processing is critical.

*Applications will be considered from candidates who are working towards completion of a relevant PhD qualification.  The title of Research Fellow will be applied upon completion of PhD.  Prior to the qualification being awarded the title of Senior Research Assistant will be given.
