Research Fellow (Health Economics)

Part-time (0.50 fte, 18.25 hours)

This is an opportunity for a senior researcher with expertise in economic evaluation to make a real contribution to reducing health inequalities and improving population health.

You will work as part of a team based at Lancaster University and Liverpool University as part of the Public Health Intervention Responsive Studies Team (PHIRST) initiative funded by the National Institute for Health and Care Research. PHIRST links up academic teams with local authorities to evaluate work that is happening in local government across the UK with potential to improve health and reduce inequalities.

You will manage evaluations of local authority initiatives with responsibility for the design and delivery of economic components of studies. You will also work with other team members, members of the public and collaborating local authorities to plan evaluations and conduct evaluability assessments.

You will have a PhD or equivalent research experience in a quantitative discipline and/or health economics, with interest and experience in health and/or policy evaluation.  Working with a team comprising experienced public health professionals, academics and members of the public, there will also be opportunities for career development, including gaining experience of leading studies.

The post will be based within the Division of Health Research at Lancaster University and can be combined with hybrid/home working, but some occasional travel will be required across the UK in order to attend meetings and undertake research activities in local authority areas (subject to Covid-19 restrictions).

You will also be a part of the expanding Health Economics at Lancaster team, led by Professor Bruce Hollingsworth, a cross Faculty initiative that supports health economics research, education and knowledge exchange.

Our team and the Division of Health Research provide a friendly environment that strongly supports the individual needs of each employee and which actively promotes a healthy work-life balance. The Faculty is committed to family-friendly and flexible working policies and has held a Silver Athena SWAN award since 2014 in recognition of its good employment practice undertaken to address gender equality in higher education and research.

The position is available for immediate start and we are open to discussing flexible working arrangements including working week and days/hours worked and flexible start and finish times.  You will join us on an indefinite contract however the role remains contingent on external funding which at this time is due to come to an end on 28th February 2027.

Informal enquiries can be made to Professor Bruce Hollingsworth (b.hollingsworth@lancaster.ac.uk ) or Dr Emma Halliday (e.halliday@lancaster.ac.uk )
