The Opportunity
The successful candidate for this position will help realise the aims of the Australian Research Council Discovery Projects grant DP220102952: Artificial Intelligence, Robots, and Agriculture: Social and ethical issues. In particular, they will draw on their expertise in empirical bioethics and/or deliberative methods to assist in running dialogue groups and citizens’ juries and analysing the data they produce in order to help: investigate the social and ethical issues that key stakeholders anticipate from the applications of AI and robotics in agriculture; and, determine what farmers, consumers, and rural communities want from AI and robotics when it comes to their use in agriculture.
Key responsibilities include:
- The conduct of research under limited supervision either as a member of a team or, where appropriate, independently and the production or contribution to the production of conference and seminar papers and publications from that research
- Involvement in professional activities including, subject to availability of funds, attendance at conferences and seminars in the field of expertise
- Limited administrative functions primarily connected with the area of research of the academic.
The appointee will have a doctoral qualification in Philosophy, in the area of applied ethics, or bioethics, or a closely related field. Demonstrable expertise in empirical bioethics and/or deliberative methods, or demonstrable capacity to acquire such expertise within 6 months of appointment and familiarity with debates about the ethics of robotics and/or agricultural ethics is highly desirable. This position will report directly to the lead Chief Investigator on the project but will also be expected to work closely with the other CIs.
This role is a part-time position; however, flexible working arrangements may be negotiated.
