Research Fellow (Open & Generic Wireless Structural Health Monitoring System)

Nanyang Technological University

A Research Fellow position is available in the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore.

Job Description:

This research opportunity focuses on assessing the performance of reinforced concrete structures that have been deteriorated due to aging (, chemical attacks (e.g., carbonation, chlorides, and sulfates), chemical reactions (e.g., alkali silica and alkali carbonate), and corrosion of reinforcing bars. Accurate characterization of member strength and stiffness degradation is essential in predicting potential failure modes and reduction in service life of concrete structures. The roles of the position include:

  • Responsible for the open & generic wireless structural health monitoring system

  • In charge of testing of structural members to validate numerical simulations that can be used to evaluate performance and service life of aging structures

  • Conducting structural health analysis based on the data derived from health monitoring system

Job Requirements:

  • Must graduate with PhD Degree from a reputable university with relevant research experience/expertise and/or strong journal publication record. Prior experience on similar research and strong record of journal publication and/or IP generation will be favourably reviewed

  • Have relevant skills of finite element modelling by using Diana software and have an in-depth study on strut-and -tie model and critical shear crack theory of RC strictures

  • Able to proficiently use the software of MATLAB, SCILAB and EXCEL to do data processing and numerical analysis

  • Has relevant experiment skills such as artificial acceleration corrosion techniques, development of anti-corrosion sensors, mechanical testing, and repair as well as maintenance of corroded structures

We regret that only shortlisted candidates will be notified.
