The Opportunity

Monash Rural Health (MRH) is a school within the Faculty of Medicine Nursing and Health Sciences that carries a mandate to improve the health status of regional, rural and remote communities in Australia, and more specifically in Victoria. We are committed to a sustainable rural health workforce and are achieving these outcomes through the development and implementation of medical and health professions education programs in underserved regional and rural communities, and by undertaking targeted research programs that address priority health problems in rural populations. Monash Rural Health is broadly divided into two regions where it has major regional academic sites in south-east and north-west Victoria.

The Research Fellow will work across two research projects exploring the role of health literacy in cardiovascular disease. This is primarily a project management role with a significant health services research component.

The projects include experience-based co-design, development of health literacy solutions, and feasibility and evaluation studies. A focus of this research is on underserved population groups including rural Australians and those from culturally and linguistically diverse communities.

As the successful candidate duties you may be responsible for include;

  • The conduct of research either as a member of a team or independently and the production of conference and seminar papers and publications from that research
  • Supervision of research-support staff involved in the staff member’s research
  • Guidance in the research effort of junior members of research-only Academic staff in their research area
  • Contribution to the preparation or, where appropriate, individual preparation of research proposal submissions to external funding bodies
  • Involvement in professional activities including, subject to availability of funds, attendance at conferences and seminars in the field of expertise
  • Administrative functions primarily connected with their area of research
  • Occasional contributions to the teaching program within the field of the staff member’s research
  • Co-supervision or, where appropriate, supervision of major honours or postgraduate research projects within the field of the staff member’s area of research

The appointee will have a doctoral qualification in public health or social epidemiology, AND a track record in health services research or co-design or working with culturally and linguistically diverse communities; or equivalent qualifications in a related discipline from a recognised university and postdoctoral research experience and training in those areas.

If you believe you can fulfil these requirements, you are strongly encouraged to apply.

This role is a part-time position; however, flexible working arrangements may be negotiated.

The successful applicant will need to possess a current valid Police check.

Your application must address the selection criteria. Please refer to “How to apply for Monash Jobs “.
