Research Fellow (Microbiology/Biotechnology/Molecular Biology/Biological Science/Biochemistry)

The School of Chemistry, Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology (CCEB) invites applications for the position of Research Fellow.

This research position is available in a collaborative project funded by National Research Foundation under the Competitive Research Program. The purpose of this position is conducting research in the synthetic biology and metabolic engineering discipline to achieve the set goals for this project. 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • The Research fellow will be working on genetic circuits in cyanobacteria for the production of key intermediates to increase molecule production.

  • He/She will be responsible for planning and executing the experiments independently to achieve the set goals.

  • Work closely with the Principal Investigator and provide administrative support for project management and communicate with all the collaborative teams.

  • Co-ordinate and facilitate seamless communication across the various collaborative project teams.

  • Contribute towards project strategy and timely troubleshoot any challenges encountered.

  • Data analysis and data representation for scientific communication.

  • Keep track f project progress guide project direction and ensure timely completion of project deliverables to reach key milestones.

  • Writing reports to summarize the findings and progress of the project.

  • Supervise and mentor research students and provide guidance in related projects in the lab.

Job Requirements: 

  • Ph.D degree in microbiology, biotechnology, molecular biology, biological science, biochemistry or a related field with a minimum of 5 years of postdoctoral experience in a research environment.

  • Have strong background and research experience in genetic engineering in microorganisms, and ability to design and construct modular genetic parts by using various DNA assembly techniques.

  • Experience with cellulose producing bacteria is desirable but not mandatory.

  • Managerial and strong decision making skills and ability to work independently.

  • Strong research track record with international publications.

  • Good communication skills and ability to work and co-ordinate across research teams.
