Research Fellow in Health Economics Modelling/Health Technology Assessment

The Liverpool Reviews and Implementation Group (LR*i*G) was established in 2001 with funding from the National Institute for Health and Care Research Health Technology Assessment (NIHR HTA) programme to provide high quality systematic reviews of the clinical and cost effectiveness of healthcare technologies primarily for the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE). The group is multi-disciplinary and includes systematic reviewers, medical statisticians, health economists, economic modellers, drug information experts and information specialists.

The LR*i*G team has submitted more than 60 NIHR reports and published over 125 papers or abstracts directly related to clinical and cost effectiveness research. The research carried out by LR*i*G is used directly by NICE to make decisions related to treatments that are made available within the National Health Service. Having worked in HTA for over 21 years, LR*i*G is now considered to be a leader in this field.

A major function of the group is the critical appraisal of clinical and cost effectiveness reports submitted to NICE as part of the Single Technology Appraisal (STA) process and we are seeking to appoint a Research Fellow in Health Economics Modelling/Health Technology Assessment with appropriate analytical skills who can help to manage and deliver these projects. Preference will be given to applicants who have worked in the NICE STA process. The work of the group also includes the conduct of systematic reviews of clinical and cost effectiveness evidence, and we expect the successful candidate to have the skills and expertise to conduct systematic reviews.

The University of Liverpool and LR*i*G actively support staff development. Progression is tailored to individual circumstances and may include participation/teaching in short training courses, support of individual research interests and development of an academic profile through publications and attendance/presentation at national and international conferences. The University and LR*i*G are fully committed to Athena SWAN principles to promote women in science and are keen to accommodate staff with family or caring responsibilities. We have a package of family-friendly policies, covering flexible working, career breaks and entitlement to paid maternity, paternity and adoption leave. You may also wish to consult http://www.liv.ac.uk/lrig/ for background information on the main work of the group.

We wish to appoint a Research Fellow with economic modelling skills, HTA experience, leadership potential, initiative and the ability to work to strict deadlines. You will have a senior role in an economics team whose primary focus is the critical appraisal of economic models designed to assess the cost effectiveness of health care interventions.

You will have a PhD/Master¿s degree in Health Economics, Statistics, Operational Research or a related field, an ability to manage quantitative data as well as advanced computing skills. Proven experience in the development and critical appraisal of economic models of cost effectiveness is required and you must be able to use a variety of software packages to design economic models. You must be organised, conscientious and able to work both independently and within a research team.
