About the opportunity
The School of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering is looking for a Research Fellow in Biomaterial Engineering to support research funded by an ARC discovery grant for the development of tough and elastic material with broad range of applications. We are looking for an outstanding and motivated researcher to develop materials that can mimic properties of elastic tissues. The researcher will join a multidisciplinary research team and will be mentored by national and international distinguished researchers with expertise in polymer processing and synthesis, biophysics, electrical engineering and biochemistry. This project will provide a great opportunity for the candidate to develop many aspects of their academic career, engage with industry partners in the field of bioengineering, strengthen national and international collaborations with the possibility to conduct part of the research in an overseas research institute. It is expected that the Research Fellow with the desirable experience contributes to developing material for medical applications.
About you

a PhD (or equivalent) in engineering (e.g. material engineering, textile engineering and polymer engineering) or relevant discipline
experience in conducting original research and/or engaging in scholarly activity related to in depth understanding of fibre and elastic polymeric materials for different applications (soft tissue implants, robotic or sensor), laboratory skills in polymer synthesis, processing, electrochemistry, various material characterization, histology and cell study
demonstrated experience and ability in preparation of competitive grants, and attracting funding for research
a track record of industry collaboration and engagement
experience in supervision of undergraduate and post-graduate research students in an official capacity
a demonstrated understanding of the concepts of various polymers
a proven track record of establishing collaborative research nationally and internationally and managing work in a multidisciplinary team
strong communication skills
a track record in preparing high quality scientific figures, presentations, reports, and academic papers
