Research Fellow (Department of Psychology)

Job Description

Under the umbrella of the Singapore’s largest scale birth cohort study, Growing up in Singapore Towards Healthy Outcomes (GUSTO), we are investigating the Intelligence Mindset. The Intelligence Mindset study examines the interplay between the gender-brilliance stereotypes and math-brilliance beliefs in predicting gendered school outcomes among students. Additionally, this study would be tracking long-term adaptations in gender brilliance stereotypes and math-brilliance beliefs. This study is in collaboration with Dr. Andrei Cimpian at New York University, and the position is with Dr. Peipei Setoh, NTU Early Cognition Lab and Dr. Xiaopan Ding, NUS Child Development Lab.

The research fellow will work with Dr. SETOH Peipei, Psychology, School of Social Sciences, Nanyang Technological University and Dr. DING Xiaopan, Psychology, National University of Singapore.

The main responsibilities include:

  • Engage in academic activities (prepare manuscripts, reports, grants, and present findings in national and international conferences)
  • Perform research duties (e.g., managing the lab’s IRB protocol, research grant administration and accounting, maintain budgets, submit reimbursement requests, database management, data cleaning, data processing)
  • Recruit, train and supervise undergraduate research assistants and graduate students
  • Work with multidisciplinary teams of researchers and stakeholders from a wide range of fields, including developmental psychology, education, in collaboration with clinical experts in general and developmental-behavioral pediatrics
  • Provide general support to researchers in the lab.
  • Teach HP 2300 Developmental Psychology tutorials, and assist Prof Setoh to teach HP4031 Developmental Psychology methods seminar classes at Nanyang Technological University

This fellowship provides substantial opportunities for new PhDs seeking significant experience, mentorship, and networking, as well as close collaboration with the Principal Investigators and considerable involvement in authorship of abstracts, presentations, and manuscripts.

The position is available immediately. The initial appointment is for 12 months with possible renewal for the second and third year subject to performance.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Developmental Psychology, Education, Epidemiology, or a related quantitative field
  • Research experience in early cognitive development/ education pedagogies
  • Excellent statistical abilities, demonstrated proficiency in statistical language (e.g, Stata, R)
