The National Institute of Education invites suitable applications for the position of Research Fellow on a 21-month contract at the Centre for Research in Child Development, Office of Education Research .

Project Title: Development of a Quality Teaching Tool [ECDA 6/22 NK]  

Project Introduction:

This project aims to develop a Quality Teaching Tool to:

  • Establish common standards to identify and measure key “quality” teaching practices in the preschool classroom
  • Guide Early Childhood centre leaders and teachers, via self-evaluation and classroom observations, on the use of key quality teaching practices to promote learning and development of children in early to preschool years
  • Bridge the gap between research and practice by highlighting key quality teaching practices that have proven to be effective, based on empirical evidence / ground experience

Requirements

  • PhD in relevant discipline (e.g., education, child development, early childhood)
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a research project
  • Knowledge of quantitative and qualitative analysis and software
  • Ability to write reports and presentations
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Ability to work cooperatively and effectively in a team (including with external stakeholders)
  • Good organizational, verbal, and interpersonal skills
  • Qualifications or work experience in early childhood education or with assessment/measurement would be preferred

Responsibilities

  • Manage research project and supervise junior project team members
  • Document and manage qualitative and quantitative project data and assist with data collection
  • Analyse quantitative data using psychometric techniques
  • Analyse qualitative data
  • Assist and work closely with the NIE Research Team and with other project stakeholders (including the funding body, preschools, etc.)
  • Contribute to presentations, academic and report writing
  • Conduct literature reviews
  • Any other duties assigned by the NIE Research Team
